FAQ: Emulation of an EPC-Recorder

Q: Is it possible to make a data output to the EPC recorder visible, when no recorder is available ? A: Yes ! The data output of the workstation for the EPC recorder is organized in lines of 2048 pixels, each of them with an 8 bit value for the amplitude. The EPC recorder shows this data set as one line with 256 different grey shades. A data file with this information can be generated as follows. Modify the following entries in "periphery.ini": [SSCAN1] ! C T R L ctrl_dev=/dev/c0p1_lp (unchanged) ctrl_ixon=NO (unchanged) ctrl_ixoff=NO (unchanged) ctrl_ctsxon=YES --> NO ctrl_rtsxoff=YES --> NO ! D A T A data_dev_type=centr (unchanged) data_dev=/dev/ssrecorder --> /tmp/sscan_data.out Let the hydromap online run on a workstation with a serial interface (NOT elwood !!). Activate the output for the sidescan recorder. The data will appear in the file mentioned above. This data file must be expanded with a leading header to convert it to a Windows Bitmap. For details, see BMP_graphic.htm.
